On London Bombings
My friend in London was on the tube a station away from Liverpool Station when the bombings occurred. She was otherwise unaffected besides her three point five hour trek to work. She spoke of the general atmosphere in London. That most people are still going to work and carrying on with life. Nothing much has changed, she explained, the Londoners are a stoic bunch. No one is going take a day off unless they are directly affected. No one is going to go on National TV on a talk show to express their shock, horror and trauma. In London, people just carry on with life.
Incidentally, I met three Englishmen(a Londoner, an Irishman and a Scot) for drinks. They made jokes about the American at the table and laughed at the French (mock-blaming the French). They didn't think there was much to mention about the bombings, cept that it was a tad unfortunate, but not the end of the world. Instead, they were more interested in drinking to the IOC's decision and mocking America and France good-naturedly.
And I think, maybe being Anglophilic is not so bad a thing for me. I must learn that no matter what happens, Life Always Goes On.
